The cat’s out of the bag. After a five-year sabbatical–and perhaps a bit of soul-searching–Jaguar is set to pounce back into the compact four-door segment with their brand-new XE S. Today, in a royal fit of pomp and circumstance, the brand has unveiled the highly anticipated, driver-centric sedan, clearly bred to prey on the likes of BMW and Audi.
Save for the marque’s signature cab-rearward stance, the XE shares next to nothing with its predecessor X-Type; a car that didn’t exactly wow the masses it was meant to attract. Packing the same supercharged 3.0-liter V6 as the acclaimed F-Type, the worlds-sportier XE S will allow drivers to paddle-shift through an eight gear transmission; propelling them from naught to 60mph in just 4.9 seconds, and up to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. At profile’s glance, onlookers may see a slight resemblance to the Bavarian adversary 3-Series, but the powerplant isn’t the only element the XE borrows from its sexy roadster sibling. Pull away, and it’s an unmistakable Jaguar tail they’ll be chasing, as you revel in a bespoke-quality cabin that shares the level of refinement the Brits have become synonymous with.
